Department Fleet

The Department currently utilizes 27 vehicles to serve the citizens of our community. These vehicles range from four wheel drive SUVs, police package squad cars, unmarked investigative and tactical vehicles as well as a four wheel off-road ATV and Mobile Command Trailer.

The Department utilizes a 3-year vehicle purchase plan that allows for planning and budgeting anticipated cost increases for the needs of the Department. The goal of the Village is to provide our officers with safe and properly maintained vehicles to service our citizens.

9-1-1 Communications Center

The 9-1-1 Communications Center boasts four computer-aided dispatch positions, an enhanced emergency telephone system, an Emergency Operations center (E.O.C.) and other high-tech equipment. The Communications Center has its own air conditioning system and other support systems to enhance the work environment of Communications personnel.  The Computer Aided Dispatch (C.A.D.) and Records Management Systems (R.M.S.) have been updated during 2008 to a state-of-the-art fully integrated system by Pro Phoenix.

The Communications Center is staffed by nine full-time state certified communication officers. All Communications Center personnel are provided on-going training in the latest techniques and to keep abreast of technological advances. Communications personnel are responsible for answering over 100,000 telephone calls annually resulting in approximately 16,000 calls for service each year. Two dispatchers are on duty per shift to handle the volume of activity. Communications personnel are also responsible for monitoring detention facilities as well as overall building security.

Mobile Command Unit

The Mobile Command Unit is designed to respond when called to support the Alsip Police Department and the surrounding area. It is equipped with specialized communications, computer technology, and other tactical and field operations equipment, which allows the Police department the flexibility to set up in any area of the village. It will be used in a variety of situations including, but not limited to, community events that require a significant number of police officers, tactical and other critical incidents, and crime scenes that require lengthy processing or special operations and equipment. The Mobile Command Unit was purchased through a federal ILEAS Block Grant from the Federal Office of Justice Programs. A tour of the Mobile Command Unit is available at certain times of the year for all village residents.
