CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
In April
of 1989 the Alsip Police Department Career
Development Program was created. The program
provides for the development of personal skills,
knowledge and abilities of all personnel in order to
successfully meet Department goals and objectives.
The program works in connection with the Departments
Comprehensive Training Plan and allows officers to
directly impact their own career paths. The plan
includes career development curriculum in 16
different modules including: Evidence Technician,
Criminal Investigator, Traffic Accident
Investigator, Crime Prevention Officer, Tactical
Officer, and Police Administration. The program is
voluntary and assures officers equal access to
training and development opportunities relevant to
their assignment and/or classification. The entire
program is slated for a complete review and revision
during the 2007/2008 fiscal year. Because of the
influx of new employees filling the positions of
retiring officers (34 new hires since 1995), the
focus has been on training officers in their basic
career tracks, that is, Police Officer II for new
hires and Sergeant II for the newly promoted. As
soon as this flux slows, the emphasis will again
shift to the other available career tracks.
